Anytime a track gets the shiny “NASCAR Sanctioned” label means more spotlight is thrust upon the facility, more eyes, and hopefully more competition. As a fan of Caraway Speedway and someone who has been to the track several times over the last decade or so I begun to notice the car count decreasing at certain events, less fan attendance, and general facility disarray with the scoring boards being non functional. However, the last several years they have been completing major facility renovations and I have been very impressed. One of the issues I had as someone who helped in the pits was the grass in the infield, if you were unlucky on your arrival to the track you would get stuck working in the dirt while others had the luxury of asphalt, but the crew at Caraway Speedway improved the infield by paving it. Caraway and the old Myrtle Beach Speedway both shared an unusual pit exit, giant bumps lined turns one and two and disappeared on the exit of turn two. The speedway recently did major resurfacing changes in turns three and four to improve racing, but the major improvement in my opinion is the removal of the curbs I mentioned earlier, and the expansion of the apron. Having been to the speedway in August after recent renovations I saw great racing, the frontstretch looking nicer with brand new seating, the racing going into turn one on a restart has never been better. With all the improvements being done to a track that I thought would close down years ago I think I was wrong about the future of the facility, the history is important and with the track getting officially sanctioned, NASCAR is back at Caraway and I believe more will be coming in the next several years.
